“Disney” was the theme tossed out by Richard this week in honor of his applying for the Disney-ABC Television Writing Fellowship. Here’s hoping it was just the push he needed to get accepted.<\/em>
<\/em>
His sketch this week brings us the <\/em>Walt-cicle <\/em><\/a>taking in the Olympics.<\/em>
<\/em>
Dave jumped in last week after getting a <\/em>reaming from the creator of Wall-E<\/em><\/a>. Nothing from him yet, but the theme is in his hands should he choose to join us.<\/em>
<\/em>
I think it’s interesting that I chose to deal with Walt as well. Not sure what that says about Richard and I. Aside from the “great minds think alike” stuff.<\/em><\/p>\n

Origin of Species.<\/p>\n

(A dark and dingy basement\/laboratory. A young man is standing over an operating table working on a body. We can\u2019t really see what\u2019s on the table. He is whistling while he works. Suddenly a light is turned on and we hear footsteps coming into the basement.)<\/p>\n

Dad: What are you doing down here, Walt?<\/p>\n

Walt: Knock! I asked you to knock before coming down here!<\/p>\n

(Walt frantically throws a sheet over the body. His Dad enters.)<\/p>\n

Dad: I\u2019m sorry, son, but something’s happened.<\/p>\n

(He notices Walt\u2019s apron is covered with splattered blood.)<\/p>\n

Dad: What are you working on?<\/p>\n

Walt: Nothing. Science experiment. Nothing.<\/p>\n

(The body under the sheets twitches. Dad looks around Walt at the figure on the table.)<\/p>\n

Dad: Is it alive? You\u2019re not torturing one of Mrs. DeVille\u2019s cats again are you?<\/p>\n

Walt: No, Dad.<\/p>\n

Dad: We talked about that, remember?<\/p>\n

Walt: I remember, Dad. Now, what did you want to talk to me about? I have work to do.<\/p>\n

Dad: There\u2019s no easy way of saying this. It\u2019s your mother.<\/p>\n

Walt: What about her?<\/p>\n

Dad: Well, she was out picking berries and some hunters mistook her for a deer\u2026<\/p>\n

(There is a sound from under the sheet. A strange guffawing, laugh-like sound.)<\/p>\n

Dad: What the hell do you have under there?<\/p>\n

(Dad whips away the sheet to reveal a strange humanoid looking dog. Dad recoils with disgust.)<\/p>\n

Dad: Sweet Jesus! What have you done?<\/p>\n

Walt: It\u2019s not finished yet!<\/p>\n

Dad: Is that Pluto?<\/p>\n

Walt: No, dad. I would never hurt our dog.<\/p>\n

Dad: Then?<\/p>\n

Walt: It\u2019s the Darling\u2019s goofy-looking mutt.<\/p>\n

(The \u201cdog-man\u201d twitches and guffaws again.)<\/p>\n

Walt: He is going to be able to walk and talk, just like we do.<\/p>\n

Dad: Oh son. Son, this is wrong. You have to stop this.<\/p>\n

Walt: Why can\u2019t you believe in me? My work.<\/p>\n

Dad: Walt, trying to make animals behave like us isn\u2019t work, it\u2019s\u2026.it\u2019s immoral.<\/p>\n

Walt: You just wait and see. I\u2019ll show you. I\u2019ll show everyone!<\/p>\n

(Walt bolts up the stairs.)<\/p>\n

Dad: Son wait! Come back!<\/p>\n

(We hear a door slam in another part of the house. Dad takes a look around the basement. The \u201cdog-man\u201d twitches and guffaws.)<\/p>\n

Dad: Jesus. This is worse than those damn mice he kept putting short pants on.<\/p>\n

(He picks up a shovel and bashes the \u201cdog-man\u201d with it. There are a couple of yelps and then it is still. He wipes his hands and heads for the stairs.)<\/p>\n

Dad: He\u2019s gotta cut this shit out. A thing like this can stick with a man forever. After all, it\u2019s a small world out there.<\/p>\n

(He climbs the stairs. A cricket in a top hat and coat leaps onto the table. It takes one look at the \u201cdog-man\u201d and vomits.)<\/p>\n
