Darrell Rogers, young and grungy. squeezes onto the packed car. He is pressed right up against Vinton Cerf, older and distinguished. Darrell is staring at Vinton, who is trying to read the paper.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Can I help you?<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Huh?<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

You\u2019re staring.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Sorry.<\/p>\n

Darrell looks away. Vinton goes back to reading.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just that. Well, I think I know you.<\/p>\n

Vinton looks at him.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

No. I\u2019m pretty sure I know you from somewhere.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your name?<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Darrell Rogers.<\/p>\n

Vinton thinks for a moment.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

No. Sorry. I\u2019m pretty good with names. I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever met.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

I know, I know you from somewhere. Did you go to Ohio State?<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Stanford. Then UCLA.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Ever work at Borders?<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Ah, no.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Weird. You look so familiar to me.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Must have one of those faces.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it!<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

What\u2019s that?<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Facebook. We\u2019re friends on Facebook.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

We are?<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Yeah, I work with Jenny Barr, who\u2019s friends with Perry Silverman who\u2019s friends Maggie Thornburg who\u2019s friends with Fred Burns who\u2019s friends with Larry Page who, as you well know, is friends with you. I friended you through the \u201cFriends You May Know\u201d feature.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Ah.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Man, how are you? I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m actually meeting you face to face. (beat) From Facebook.<\/p>\n

Darrell laughs at his own joke. Vinton does not. The train stops.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

This is me.<\/p>\n

Vinton steps off the train.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

Dude, we should get drinks some time. Catch up.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Um.<\/p>\n

DARRELL<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll poke you later to remind you.<\/p>\n

VINTON<\/p>\n

Please don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Darrell is grinning and waving to Vinton. The doors slide closed and the train glides off. Vinton takes a small Moleskine notepad out of his breast pocket and opens it up. We see that there is a list on the page. At the top of the page it reads:<\/p>\n

1) Finish time machine.<\/p>\n

2) Go back and stop Hitler from being born.<\/p>\n

3) Buy milk.<\/p>\n

Vinton scratches out #2 and pencils in:<\/p>\n

STOP SELF FROM INVENTING INTERNET!<\/p>\n

He underlines it twice, replaces the notebook and walks off.<\/p>\n
