FADE IN:<\/p>\n

TITLE CARD: \u201cFrank Defeats the Angel of Death\u201d\n<\/p>\n

INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT<\/p>\n

FRANK, a cat, sleeps in a basket on a hardwood floor.<\/p>\n

He wears a collar with a name tag attached.<\/p>\n

A large Christmas tree sits in one corner of the living room, near the front door.<\/p>\n

A creepy- and androgynous-looking ANGEL with tiny wings sits atop the tree.<\/p>\n

A fire roars in the fireplace.<\/p>\n

Nearby, OLIVE (30s) holds a large drink and talks on her cell phone.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

I’m just about ready for the dinner party.<\/p>\n

ANGLE ON FRANK<\/p>\n

— snoozing happily.<\/p>\n

OLIVE (O.S.)<\/p>\n

Thanks, I am so nervous. Both of my bosses will be here, and everyone from the book club.<\/p>\n

CLUNK.<\/p>\n

A red-ball Christmas-tree decoration rolls past Frank’s basket.<\/p>\n

Frank idly sharpens his claws on the basket, but doesn’t wake.<\/p>\n

OLIVE (O.S.)<\/p>\n

You’re right. I can make a good impression.<\/p>\n

CLUNK.<\/p>\n

Another Christmas-tree decoration rolls by.<\/p>\n

Frank opens one eye.<\/p>\n

OLIVE (O.S.)<\/p>\n

You and Terrill are bringing the fruit dip, right?<\/p>\n

Frank looks around, and is alarmed to see —<\/p>\n

AT THE TOP OF THE TREE<\/p>\n

The angel has sprung to life!<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

I know! I love guavas!<\/p>\n

BACK TO SCENE<\/p>\n

With malevolent glee, the angel flings another red-ball Christmas decoration at Olive.<\/p>\n

Olive, looking the other way, doesn’t notice.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Well, you’ll have to tell us all about the Caymans.<\/p>\n

The decoration misses her ricochets off the wall, and rolls underfoot.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

I just love that little — WAAAGH!<\/p>\n

Olive trips on the decoration and lands on the floor next to the tree.<\/p>\n

The drink lands on the floor, making a puddle.<\/p>\n

Olive glances at the angel, and the angel reverts back to a motionless, innocent-looking ornament.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

I tripped on a Christmas decoration.<\/p>\n

Frank blinks a few times, shakes his head, and looks up to see —<\/p>\n

— Olive standing in the puddle, phone in hand.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Really, I’m fine. Just clumsy.<\/p>\n

The angel now has a length of Christmas lights, frayed and sparking at one end.<\/p>\n

The angel lowers the live wire towards the puddle.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

You know, I called Harry, but I think he has that — what, fundraiser thing?<\/p>\n

Closer.<\/p>\n

Closer.<\/p>\n

It’s an inch away from the puddle, and then —<\/p>\n

Frank leaps into the air!<\/p>\n

He grasps the Christmas lights midair, carrying the wire out of harm’s way.<\/p>\n

He lands in a heap in the corner.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

What’s that? Oh, that’s just Frank.<\/p>\n

Frank, still holding the lights, un-heaps himself and sees —<\/p>\n

— the angel using a candy cane to skim down the lights like a zipwire.<\/p>\n

The angel lands on Frank.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Yeah — he runs from one room to another sometimes. Crazy. Cute, but crazy.<\/p>\n

Frank throws the angel off.<\/p>\n

The angel pulls a red ball off the tree and holds it menacingly. <\/p>\n

Frank looks smug and unworried.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Yeah. Yeah. But do you think Harry knows how he feels? — y’know, how he really feels?<\/p>\n

The angel cracks the ball into two jagged pieces, which he wields with martial-arts-style panache.<\/p>\n

Frank panics and grabs the nearest thing to hand. It’s a length of popcorn rope.<\/p>\n

They fight. Frank uses the rope to block one attack, then another.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Glenlivet, of course. I mean, it costs, but —<\/p>\n

Frank whips the rope around one jagged piece of metal, and rips the weapon out of the angel’s hand.<\/p>\n

Frank does the same to the other.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Absolutely. That is so right.<\/p>\n

Frank whips the rope at the angel, BUT —<\/p>\n

— the angel grabs the free end.<\/p>\n

Tug-of-war.<\/p>\n

The angel drags Frank off his feet and ties him up.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

You know, I always get my dipping trays from the farmer’s market.<\/p>\n

The angel drags Frank toward the FIREPLACE.<\/p>\n

Frank struggles.<\/p>\n

Frank panics.<\/p>\n

Frank has an idea: he unsheaths his claws!<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Yeah. It’s just there’s always something you overlook, y’know? Not until the last minute —<\/p>\n

Frank cuts himself free of the rope.<\/p>\n

He piles into the angel.<\/p>\n

The two of them disappear into the tree.<\/p>\n

They reappear a third of the way up the tree, fighting.<\/p>\n

They reappear two-thirds of the way up the tree, fighting.<\/p>\n

They reappear at the very top of the tree, fighting.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Oh, of course! You’re right. I’ll just have to make do without feta.<\/p>\n

Finally, Frank plants the angel firmly on the treetop, gets a series of good swats in, grabs the angel —<\/p>\n

— and flings him off the tree.<\/p>\n

The angel arcs downward, fluttering his tiny, ineffectual wings —<\/p>\n

— towards the FIREPLACE!<\/p>\n

(Think Die Hard<\/i>.)<\/p>\n

FOOM!<\/p>\n

Crispy dead angel.<\/p>\n

Frank heaves a sigh of relief.<\/p>\n

And another.<\/p>\n

And now THE TREE IS TIPPING OVER.<\/p>\n

Frank makes a mad scramble, but it’s no use —<\/p>\n

— the tree smashes to the floor.<\/p>\n

Decorations scatter.<\/p>\n

Tinsel floats down.<\/p>\n

Frank slides across the hardwood to a stop.<\/p>\n

The front door OPENS to reveal —<\/p>\n

— a crowd of PARTY GUESTS.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Oh my god!<\/p>\n

Frank freezes with panic.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Frank!<\/p>\n

Frank tries to provide a quick, nonverbal explanation of everything that has happened so far.<\/p>\n

Halfway in, Olive scoops him up.<\/p>\n

OLIVE<\/p>\n

Aw, are you okay?<\/p>\n

GUEST #1<\/p>\n

I think the tree fell on him!<\/p>\n

Frank puts on a sad face.<\/p>\n

GUEST #2<\/p>\n

Let me give him some tuna!<\/p>\n

FADE TO:<\/p>\n

INT. LIVING ROOM – LATER<\/p>\n

Olive and the guests chat indistinctly.<\/p>\n

The tree stands upright, a bit disheveled.<\/p>\n

Frank, bloated and happy, eats the last of a big dish of tuna.<\/p>\n

He waddles back to his basket.<\/p>\n

He suddenly goes to the tree, nabs a length of popcorn rope off the tree, and returns to the basket.<\/p>\n

He holds the rope and eyes the room warily, but drifts off to sleep.<\/p>\n
