Here’s my take on the “Air Travel” edition of Sketchwar.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
FADE IN:\u00a0 <\/p>\n
INT. AIRLINER CABIN – DAY<\/p>\n
ANGIE (30s) sits next to an empty aisle seat. A large bag sits at her feet.<\/p>\n
On the other side of her, RYAN (8) sits in the window seat. A small bag sits at his feet.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Mom, I’m bored!<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
Do you want a movie?<\/p>\n
She pulls a portable DVD player out of her bag.<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
There’s Nemo, and there’s Shrek, and --<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
I wanna watch The Hurt Locker!<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
What?<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Aunt Katherine let me watch it, and it was awesome, and they’re all trying to stop these bombs from going BOOM!<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
We don’t say “BOOM!” on the plane, Ryan.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
And then one of the bombs, it blew up, and it made --<\/p>\n
Angie points out the window.<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
Hey, Ryan, look at that cloud! That one looks like a bird! And that one looks like a ball. What does that one look like?<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
The compression wave of a shaped C4 detonation!<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
Oh god.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
That other cloud is all crazy, like an IED, or a --<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
Let’s play with your toys, okay, Ryan?<\/p>\n
Ryan digs through his bag.<\/p>\n
He retrieves a plastic dinosaur.<\/p>\n
He retrieves another plastic dinosaur.<\/p>\n
An ATTENDANT pushes a cart past them, distracting Angie as --<\/p>\n
Ryan retrieves his favorite toy: a big rectangular chunk of Play-Doh, with little multicolored “wires” of yarn stuck into it, and a watch clumsily embedded in the top.<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
And look, we’ll land in ju-- oh my god!<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
I made it by myself out of Play-doh! and yarn!<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
How did you get that past security?<\/p>\n
Ryan studies the toy bomb carefully.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Sergeant James has to stop the bomb before the clock hits zero seconds.<\/p>\n
He prepares to remove one of the ‘wires’.<\/p>\n
Angie nabs the toy and puts it in the bag.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Aw, MOM!<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
Let’s put that back and play with your dinosaurs, okay?<\/p>\n
Just as she puts it away, the attendant comes by.<\/p>\n
ATTENDANT<\/p>\n
Would you like anything to drink?<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
(to the attendant)<\/p>\n
Did you know that Composition C has a detonation rate of twenty-six thousand feet per second?<\/p>\n
ATTENDANT<\/p>\n
Aw, really? What’s a composition C?<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
It’s nothing, really. We’ll all have orange juice.<\/p>\n
ATTENDANT<\/p>\n
Be back in a minute. Ooh!<\/p>\n
At that moment, DYLAN (10) scoots by her and takes the aisle seat.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Dylan! I was telling Mom about Hurt Locker!<\/p>\n
DYLAN<\/p>\n
Bombs are lame.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Oh.<\/p>\n
DYLAN<\/p>\n
And Hurt Locker wasn’t as cool as Scarface.<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
What?<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
Oh, yeah!<\/p>\n
Dylan takes a dinosaur.<\/p>\n
DYLAN<\/p>\n
(as dinosaur)<\/p>\n
“I’ve got three kilos to get to L. A.”<\/p>\n
Ryan picks up a dinosaur.<\/p>\n
The attendant returns with the drinks.<\/p>\n
RYAN<\/p>\n
(as dinosaur)<\/p>\n
“Give me the heroin! I’ll drive it right by the cops!”<\/p>\n
The attendant hears this, and looks at the three of them, alarmed.<\/p>\n
ANGIE<\/p>\n
Can I get something with alcohol?<\/p>\n
