EXT. REPAIR SHOP – DAY<\/p>\n
A MECHANIC stands out in front of a typical auto shop (“Davis Auto”), talking to SUE while AARON looks on. He holds a printout.<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
So, ma’am, you need to sign off on my estimate, and we’ll have your car fixed in a couple of days --<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
Great!<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
-- and you and your boyfriend here can drive it on home.<\/p>\n
AARON<\/p>\n
Oh, I’m not her boyfriend.<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
Aaron!<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
Oh. I get it. Y’all figure I’m one of those mechanics who’ll try to swindle a single girl, so you’ve brought a man here to keep me honest.<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
So? Aaron knows about cars.<\/p>\n
AARON<\/p>\n
Kind of.<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
Aaron!<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
Well, two can play at this game.<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
What?<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
Mr. Davis!<\/p>\n
MR. DAVIS (40s) enters -- he’s a bit better-dressed than the mechanic, but still clearly blue-collar and a bit smudged with motor oil.<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
He’s the boss here.<\/p>\n
MR. DAVIS<\/p>\n
Built this place myself! Been fixing import vehicles since 1985. Know ’em inside and out.<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
Oh, man!<\/p>\n
MR. DAVIS<\/p>\n
(to Aaron)<\/p>\n
Son, do you even know what a reflux flange sealant is<\/i>?<\/p>\n
AARON<\/p>\n
Uh...<\/p>\n
SUE<\/p>\n
(shouts)<\/p>\n
We need backup!<\/p>\n
A prim-looking NEWSCASTER enters and shakes Mr. Davis’s hand.<\/p>\n
NEWSCASTER<\/p>\n
Jane Szelnik, from News Eight.<\/p>\n
MR. DAVIS<\/p>\n
You do those “News Eight Helps the Little Guy” segments!<\/p>\n
NEWSCASTER<\/p>\n
Yes indeed -- and Mr. Davis, we take consumer protection very<\/i> seriously.<\/p>\n
The mechanic people exchange worried looks.<\/p>\n
MR. DAVIS<\/p>\n
J\u00fcrgen!<\/p>\n
J\u00dcRGEN enters, wearing glasses and a lab coat and carrying a clipboard.<\/p>\n
MR. DAVIS<\/p>\n
J\u00fcrgen here is one of the chief design engineers at VW’s Hamburg design plant. There’s no arguing with him<\/i>, lady.<\/p>\n
J\u00dcRGEN<\/p>\n
Guten Tag.<\/p>\n
NEWSCASTER<\/p>\n
Dammit!<\/p>\n
Sue WHISTLES loudly.<\/p>\n
SENATOR SMITH (50s, suit, briefcase) enters.<\/p>\n
SENATOR SMITH<\/p>\n
Jack Smith, Senator from the great state of Tennessee and chief member of the Congressional Subcommittee for Consumer Protection. I will make sure that this lady gets a fair deal.<\/p>\n
The mechanic folks exchange another worried look.<\/p>\n
Then the mechanic produces a small box with a red button.<\/p>\n
MECHANIC<\/p>\n
Fine. Y’all’ve left me no choice.<\/p>\n
He presses the button.<\/p>\n
A black Pontiac Firebird arrives. It has an oscillating red light in its grille. Sue and friends immediately recognize it as:<\/p>\n
SUE & FRIENDS<\/p>\n
KITT from Knight Rider?!<\/p>\n
KITT<\/p>\n
You’re going to need a new carbuerator!<\/p>\n
SENATOR SMITH<\/p>\n
We’ve got to listen to it. I mean, it’s KITT.<\/p>\n
Sue & friends hang their head in defeat.<\/p>\n
Mechanic & friends cheer (in slow motion) while TRIUMPHANT MUSIC plays.<\/p>\n
Finally both sides exchange handshakes and “Good game”s, as at the end of a baseball game.<\/p>\n
